Ariston #385 was delivered in 1961 in Cannes to Enrique Bravo Saurez of Cascais, Portugal, under his alias Mr. Najar. The event is mentioned in Riva the Myth under personalities.
The boat was delivered named Attila and the original engine was a Chrysler M80. Original upholstery was cream white ”ivory” and green-turquoise upholstery.
The time from delivery to the 80s when Lars Tidblom bought the boat is otherwise shrouded in obscurity. I bought the boat in 2002 from Lars’ sons. I had also taken care of the boat during the time I worked at the Corvette workshop that Lars owned.
When I bought the boat it was disassembled and I fixed it up until the summer of 2003.
There was later a major restoration of the bottom when I had a breakdown on the propeller shaft in 2013. New keel beam, maple inlays in the deck, new veneer on the stern and new varnish. Then, of course, it also got its original name back again.
– So the curse after renaming a boat was broken…
